WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Punctuated with a 3-0 win at heavyweight by junior Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area), the Lycoming College wrestling team finished a 24-18 win over Ohio Northern to conclude 2-0 on the second day of the Budd Whitehill National Duals on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Lamade Gym.

Holding a narrow three-point lead heading into the heavyweight match, the Warriors (9-5 overall) got a great match out of the eighth-ranked Wesneski, as he used a third-period reversal and a riding time point to defeat Nathan Barcaskey, 3-0. Barcaskey, listed as a contender by d3wrestle.com, had beaten the seventh-ranked grappler in the country in his previous match.

Lycoming jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the dual, with forfeit wins at 125 and 141 being combined with an 18-2 technical fall from freshman Lucas Drick (Allenwood, Pa./Montgomery Area) over Avory Winans at 133 and a 17-3 major decision from ninth-ranked junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) over Schuyler Caprella at 149.

Ohio Northern answered with 18 straight points in the next five bouts to set up Wesneski’s dramatic win.

The Warriors (9-5 overall) also earned the benefit of a 60-0 forfeit win over Millikin, who did not attend the tournament. Lycoming wrestled a junior varsity all-star squad in the morning, with freshman Ethan Landis (Canton, Pa./Canton) (141), sophomore Garrett Lockwood (Groton, N.Y./Groton) (149), senior Brad Miccio (Benton, Pa./Bloomsburg) (184) and junior Tom Lynd (Woodbury Heights, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) (285) posting wins by decision and sophomore Brody Keefe (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) (197) adding a pin during the matches.

The Warriors get back on the mat on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at King’s College at 10:30 a.m.
