WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Off to a program-record start and in the midst of its longest win streak in program history, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team rose from ninth to sixth in the national poll, the website announced on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

The ranking of sixth is the highest in program history for the Warriors (13-0 overall, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) and they are just one of six teams left in Division III without a loss. The team’s 13 wins also lead the nation and its 13-game winning streak is also the longest in the division.

Whitman topped the poll unanimously, while Augustana, Wis.-River Falls, Middlebury and Wis.-Whitewater round out the top five. Receiving votes for the second straight poll was conference foe Albright, which received 46 votes and just missed out on a top-25 ranking.

The Warriors boast the top-ranked scoring offense in the conference with 84.8 points per game while their 15.3 scoring margin is also tops. The Warriors are paced by an opportunistic defense that turns opponents over a conference-best 22.4 times per game, while averaging 12.3 steals per game.

Senior Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall), who recently scored his 1,000th career point, leads Lycoming with 13.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, second most in the conference, and 1.3 blocks per game. Senior Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) is averaging 10.8 points, 4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Leading a potent bench, junior T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) is averaging 10.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while hitting .463 percent of his 3-pointers.

The Warriors return tonight, Jan. 3, when they head to Lebanon Valley for a 6 p.m. MAC Commonwealth game against the team predicted to finish second in the conference’s preseason poll.
