Warriors picked second in MAC Pre-Championship Coaches’ Poll

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Led by a returning MAC Champion and three wrestlers in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Individual Rankings, the Lycoming College wrestling team finished tied for second in the MAC Wrestling Pre-Championship Coaches’ Poll, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Tuesday, Jan. 16.


The Warriors (9-5 overall) are tied with Delaware Valley and Wilkes for second in the poll with 10 points. Messiah, which is ranked 11th in the NWCA poll, topped the poll with 16 points and four first place votes. King’s finished fifth in the poll with four points.

Sophomore Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) returns as a defending champion at 157 pounds and enters the tournament with a 15-6 record after being named the MAC Rookie of the Year in 2016-17.

Junior Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) leads three Warriors in the NWCA Top 10 poll as the seventh ranked heavyweight. He also has a team-leading 27-2 record.

Senior Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area), the seventh ranked wrestler at 174, comes in with a 23-3 record and 149-pounder junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area), ranked ninth, has a 26-2 record.


The MAC Championship, hosted by King’s (Pa.), is set to begin on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
