Wesley S. Dodge, 101, of Williamsport, passed from this world to the next on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Williamsport Home.

Born September 13, 1916 in Erie, he was the fourth son of Harry H. and Edith (Bonnell) Dodge, Sr. Surviving is his wife Mary Mae (Jacobs) Dodge, whom he married August 3, 1942.

Wes was a 1935 graduate of Williamsport High School, and graduated from Dickinson Jr. College in 1937 (now Lycoming College). The following year he attended American University where he met his future wife. They were married just before he was deployed to England with the Army Air Corps (Air Force). Wes was a Veteran of WWII.

Following the war, Wes returned to Williamsport, where he and Mary have resided and called home since. He retired in 1981 as the advertising manager for Grit Publishing Company, after 41 years of employment. He was a twelve year trustee of the Williamsport Area Community College and had taught advertising and marketing at W.A.C.C. for several years.

Wes was a long time member of Pine Street United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees including the Board of Trustees and co-chair of the Building Committee. Always civic minded, Wes served in many organizations. He was vice president and president of the PA State Jaycees, past president of the Williamsport Chamber of Commerce and former director of the PA Chamber of Commerce. Wes was a life member and past president of the Interstate Advertising Managers Association and volunteered for six years with Lycoming County United Way. He was a 20 year member of the Rotary Club and part of the Lycoming County Historical Society. Wes was also a member of the American Legion Post 1 and the Wheel Inn, Ralston.

An avid golfer all his adult life, he continued playing well into his 90’s. Wes enjoyed playing cards, especially in his poker club. He was a very talented woodworker with his own basement shop where he made many things for his family, the historical society and his church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 75 years are four children; James W. (Sandy) Dodge, Robert W. (Kathi) Dodge, Chester H. (Liza) Dodge, and Mary E. (John) Mussare; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Wes was preceded in death by three brothers.

A memorial service to honor the life of Wes will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 29, at Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St. Williamsport, PA, 17701, with a reception to follow. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Wesley’s name may be made to Pine Street U.M.C.
