Wilkes Basketball Hosts Delaware Valley Saturday as MAC Freedom Play Hits Second Half

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Delaware Valley University as the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) schedule begins its second half Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.

The women will tip-off at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:00 p.m. Live links are provided below for anyone who cannot attend:

The Lady Colonels come into the game 4-14 overall and 0-7 in MAC Freedom action after Wednesday night’s 89-33 loss at Misericordia University.

Gianna Roberts is currently the Lady Colonels leading scorer with 9.6 points-per-game (ppg) which is tied for 17th in the MAC Freedom. She also pulls in 6.7 rebounds-per-game (rpg) (t-9th). Catey McFadden averages 9.5 ppg (19th), 7.0 rpg (7th), and 1.2 blocks-per-game (t-4th). Alyssa Alfano rounds out the trio of near-double digit scorers with 9.4 ppg (20th) and also dishes out 2.3 assists-per-game (apg) (10th). Maddie Kelley is averaging 11.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg over the past three games.

Wilkes is averaging 58.7 ppg and yielding 77.3 ppg.

Delaware Valley is 6-12 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Aggies beat Eastern University 67-50 Wednesday night in their last game.

Ashley Smink leads the Aggies with 15.7 ppg and Danielle Skedzielewski adds 11.0 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Monika Smallwood leads the team with 6.7 rpg and Morgan Mitchell averages 4.3 apg.

The Aggies are averaging 61.8 ppg and allowing 65.2 ppg. Delaware Valley defeated Wilkes 83-71 in Doylestown, Pa. on January 10th.

The Colonels enter as the sole leader atop the MAC Freedom standings with a 6-1 record and stand at 13-5 overall. An 87-82 overtime victory at Misericordia Wednesday was the third consecutive conference win for Wilkes.

Marcus Robinson (14.5 ppg, 5th), Rob Pecorelli (14.3 ppg, 6th), and Mark Mullins (13.5 ppg, 8th) all rank among the top 10 of MAC Freedom scorers. Mullins (7.5 rpg, 3rd), Zach Brunner (7.4 rpg, 4th), and Robinson (6.1 rpg, 10th) rank in the top 10 in rebounding. Pecorelli recorded a career-high seven assists in the victory over Misericordia to bring his season average to 2.9 apg (t-5th). Connor Evans has scored in double figures in seven straight games and Tommy Bowen scored 10 points Wednesday night for his second game in double figures this season.

Wilkes is scoring 76.7 ppg and allowing its opponents 70.0 ppg. The Colonels defeated the Aggies 78-69 on January 10th in Doylestown, Pa.

Delaware Valley is coming into Saturday’s game after two consecutive MAC Freedom wins at home against FDU-Florham and Eastern to run its record to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Four Aggies score in double figures led by Damian Washington at 11.3 ppg. Alex Matsinye (11.0), Willie Britton (10.8), and Andre’ Butler (10.0) join Washington. Butler leads Delaware Valley with 6.9 rpg and 3.6 apg.

The Aggies average 68.4 ppg and allow 77.2 ppg.
