ANNVILLE, PA – Wilkes University junior Ashton Gyenizs has been named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday morning.

Gyenizs went a perfect 3-0 at 165-pounds at the John Reese Duals on Sunday, including two extra-point victories, to lead the Colonels to a 2-1 week. Wilkes posted wins over W&J 30-19 and RIT 22-21 moving to 10-12 overall in dual match play this season.

“Ashton had a great weekend of wrestling and I think the weight change up to 165 is making a big difference,” said head coach Jon Laudenslager. “He looks stronger and has a lot more energy than he did at 157. He should have an excellent finish to the season and we are all very proud of his performances over the weekend,” Laudenslager added.

Gyenizs began the day with a pin in 2:26 against Washington & Jefferson’s Schrott. The junior then earned a 19-2 technical fall in 5:25 against RIT’s Hall. He concluded the duals with a 10-6 decision over SUNY Oneonta’s Marszal.

Gyenizs stands 12-12 overall on the year and has totaled 24 victories over his career for the Navy and Gold.
