DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes University men’s swim team returned from its holiday layoff on Saturday afternoon when it came up just short to Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) meet by a 139-108 final.
The Colonels are now 5-5 overall and 3-3 in MAC meets.
Wilkes got the meet started with a first-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, when the team of Jared Byrne, Anthony Stampone, Justin Burda, and Nick Martino completed the race in 1:45.84. The team of Martino, Tyler Weatherby, Stampone, and Byrne closed the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.32.
Stampone also finished first in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 30.62 and second in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:09.55.
Byrne came in first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.64 and third in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.48.
Weatherby came in second in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 31.91 and second in the 200 yard IM at 2:17.53.
Burda finished second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.85 and second in the 50 yard butterfly at 25.08.
Martino finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:01.20 and third in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 28.62.
Mike Pettit came in second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.49 and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle at 5:54.85.
The Colonels return to the pool on Saturday when they head to Messiah for a 1:00 p.m. MAC meet.
