Huskies Men's Indoor Track And Field Travels To Youngstown State This Weekend

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Bloomsburg University men's indoor track and field team will be back in action this weekend as it heads to Youngstown State University to take part in the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site. On Friday, the field events begin at 4:00 p.m. while running events will commence one hour later. On Saturday, multis and field events start at 10:00 a.m. with running events set for 11:00 a.m.
Participating in the event are Bloomsburg, California (Pa.), Canisius, Detroit, Duquesne, Edinboro, Franciscan, Glenville State, Indiana (Pa.), Lake Erie, Lock Haven, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, Wayne State, West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeling Jesuit, and Youngstown State. Also members of the Ohio State Track Club team will be competing.

Bloomsburg competed in the 20th annual Bison Open last weekend which was hosted by Bucknell University.

During day one, the Huskies posted two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times last Friday - both of which came during the 5000-meter run. In the 5000, Daniel Neiswender (Lebanon, Pa/Cedar Crest) and Zach Bitner (Mount Holly Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) each qualified for the conference meet with their times in the event. Neiswender completed the race in 15:51.31 to finish in 11th-place overall while Bitner crossed the finish line in 15:56.22 to place 14th.

The Huskies also got a strong showing from the distance medley relay team of James Wilson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South)Ben Williams (Stewartsville, N.J./Philliipsburg)Austin Kline (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), and Nick McGuire(Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) who posted a time of 10:43.31 to finish third in the event last Friday night. Meanwhile, in the 60-meter hurdles, Alex Moran (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) missed the PSAC standard by one one-hundredth of a second as he finished in 12th place during prelims with a time of 8.96 seconds. Dave Lauscar (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was 14th, posting a time of 9.13. Bloomsburg also had four runners compete in the 200-meter dash with Isaiah Cooper (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) posting the fastest time for the Huskies at 24.12. Lauscar finished with a time of 24.40, Derick Logan Jr. (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) crossed the finish line in 25.05, and Kevin Calabrese (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) completed the race in 25.39.

Bloomsburg posted three more conference marks last Saturday during day two of competition. Matthew Hart (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) posted qualifying marks in both the shot put and the weight throw while Danny Dugan (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey)qualified for the conference meet next month in the 3000-meter run. Hart finished second overall in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.64 meters. The mark places him seventh in the conference this season. Meanwhile, Hart finished sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.52 meters. He currently holds the sixth-best mark in the conference, in that event, to date.

Dugan crossed the finish line in 8:54.12 to place tenth overall in the 3000-meter run. His mark is the third-fastest time in the conference this season.

The Huskies had several other highlights on Saturday during the final day of the Bison Open. Kline placed second in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:07.81 while Wilson was ninth in the same event after posting a time of 1:09.54. Lakota Wadena (Macungie, Pa./Bloomsburg) was 17th overall in the 500 with a time of 1:12.68. In the 800-meter run, Hunter Jarratt (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) placed seventh overall, clocking in with a time of 2:00.46. Tom Moser (Natalie, Pa./Mt. Carmel) also had a top-ten finish on the track after finishing eighth in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:41.90. Bloomsburg's 4x400-meter relay team had the seventh-best time in the event on Saturday, clocking in at 3:33.12. The foursome consisted of Lauscar, Wilson, Williams, and Kline.

In the field events, joining Hart as participants on Saturday were Logan Jr. and AJ Peapos (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame). Logan Jr. competed in the long jump and finished 21st overall with a distance of 5.21 meters while Peapos posted a mark of 1.79 meters in the high jump to finish in a tie for 16th.

Bloomsburg will head back to Bucknell University on Friday, February 9, to compete in the Bucknell Tune-Up.
