Huskies Wheeland and Baney Tabbed for PSAC Central Division Weekly Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Redshirt junior outfielder Kalynn Wheeland(South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and freshman pitcher Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) each garnered some Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) weekly awards this week, the league announced today. Wheeland was named the Central Division's Athlete of the Week while Baney was selected as the Central Division Co-Pitcher of the Week. To view the league's full release, click here.

The Huskies went 3-1 in their opening weekend at the Coker Spring Tournament in Hartsville, S.C., beating Lees-McRae 5-3 and falling to Shepherd 8-0 on day one before defeating Charleston 14-8 and Fairmont State 4-3 on day two.

The honor is her first of the season and of her career. Wheeland posted a .667 batting average for the weekend, going 6-9 at the plate including 5-6 on Sunday (Feb. 25) in wins over Charleston and Fairmont State. She also knocked one double and one home run while driving in five runs and scoring twice. She also drew three walks without a strikeout. Through four games, she leads the Huskies with a 1.111 slugging percentage and also owns a .692 on-base percentage.

The South Williamsport, Pa. native is the daughter of Todd and Linda Snyder, and is an exercise science major.

The honor is her first of the season and of her career. Baney made her first two appearances of the season in nearly-flawless fashion, tossing 4.1 innings of relief while picking up two saves. In the 5-3 win over Lees-McRae on Saturday (Feb. 24), Baney fired 2.1 innings of relief to earn her first save of the season. Baney did not allow a hit, and walked and struck out one apiece. In the 4-3 win over Fairmont State on Sunday (Feb. 25), she earned the save in 2.2 innings of relief, working a no-hit appearance while striking out one.

The Howard, Pa. native is the daughter of Greg and Sue Baney, and is an exercise science major.
