MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team kept their winning streak alive with a 62-44 win at Mansfield's Decker Gymnasium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Wednesday night (Feb. 21).

The two teams played a low-scoring first quarter that left Bloomsburg up 12-10. The Huskies went up 6-0 in the first 4:17, before Mansfield rebounded in the later minutes of the frame to make it close. A bucket from Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) followed by back-to-back scores from Emma Saxton(York, Pa./Central York) got the Huskies their lead, before a pair of free throws from Alyssa Mullins got Mansfield on the board. Paige Whitfield knocked down a triple to get the game to within 6-5 with 5:48 to play; before Mansfield took a 7-6 lead on two free throws by Mary Kate Rumbaugh. The teams went quiet into the final three minutes, before Corridoni would trade a jumper with a three-pointer from Melanie Taylor with 1:56 left. A jumper from Corridoni with 1:10 left tied the game at 10, before Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) sunk two free throws with five seconds left to end the first quarter.

Mansfield would win the second quarter 17-12 to take a 27-24 lead to the half. Alayna Biesecker began the second quarter splitting a pair at the free throw line, before Mansfield took a 14-12 lead on a triple by Erin Gibbons. Two free throws from Corridoni tied the game at 14 with seven and a half minutes to play in the quarter, before two good foul shots from Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) put BU up 16-14. Another long ball from Gibbons put Mansfield up 17-16, before the teams hit the media timeout with 4:59 to play in the half. Out of the break, Mack sunk two more free throws before a layup from Darcy Lee(Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) extended Bloomsburg's lead to three with 4:37 to play in the half. A layup from Mullins got Mansfield back within one, before another Whitfield three-pointer put Mansfield up 22-20 with 3:37 to play in the half. A layup from Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) tied the game at 22, before Rumbaugh sunk two free throws to re-gain the lead for Mansfield. With 1:32 left in the half, Gibbons made two free throws to stretch their lead to four before one good free throw from Whitfield made it 27-22 with 1:01 to play to in the half. The last bucket of the first half was a jumper by Payton Spadaccino (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock South) with 45 seconds left.

Bloomsburg out-scored Mansfield 14-8 in the third quarter to ultimately take the lead for good in the game. Marissa Molnar(Erie, Pa./McDowell) knocked down the first of her five three-pointers to start the second half and tie the game at 27, before Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Mia Leonard traded layups to leave the game tied at 29. Another quick triple from Molnar got the Huskies up 32-29 less than two minutes in and forced a Mansfield timeout. The clock ticked down to five and a half minutes in the third before Spadaccino made two free throws to put BU up 34-29, before Corridoni pushed the lead to seven on the next trip down the floor. Two buckets from Mullins got the Mountaineers back within three with three minutes to play in the frame, before a layup from Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) got the Huskies back up by five with 2:20 to left in the quarter. The final bucket of the third came on a layup from Gibbons. She was fouled on the play but could not complete the three-point play, sending the teams to the fourth with Bloomsburg up 38-35.

The Huskies offense exploded in the final frame to out-score Mansfield 24-9, and totaling 38-17 in the half. Consecutive three-pointers from Lee and Molnar stretched the lead to nine, before yet another triple from Molnar stretched the lead to 12. Rumbaugh scored a layup to get the game back to within 10, before Molnar's third long ball in under three minutes got BU back up by 13 with six minutes to play in the game. Two free throws from Mullins with five minutes left trimmed the BU lead to 11, before one more free throw from Mullins with under four minutes to play got Mansfield back within 10. In the final three minutes and change, Bloomsburg would lead by as many as 18 and as few as 11.
The Huskies shot 41.9 percent (18-43) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-14) from long range and 90.9 percent (20-22) from the foul line. Molnar's 17 points led the Huskies, with all of them coming in the second half. She was also a team-best 5-7 from three-point range. Corridoni was the other Husky in double figures with 12 points on a 5-6 shooting day. Bloomsburg finished with a 37-31 edge in rebounds, including a 33-21 edge on the defensive glass. Corridoni was the team's leading rebounder on the night with nine, falling one short of a double-double. Molnar also dished out a team-high two assists, Lee recorded the lone block and Saxton registered a team-high and tied her career-high with three steals. Saxton also played a team-high 32 minutes on the night.

The Huskies improve to 12-15 with a 9-12 mark in conference with the win, while Mansfield falls to 7-20 and 5-16 in the PSAC.

Bloomsburg will look to wrap up the regular season and extend their streak to seven games on Saturday (Feb. 24) at Shippensburg. Tip-off for that contest is slated for 1:00 p.m.
