LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Redshirt senior Nikki Young (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) of the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Young led the Huskies to a victory at the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania, last weekend. She swam in six total events last Saturday and earned five victories and a second-place finish during the meet. Young won two individual races - the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke - and was a part of three relay-winning teams.

In the 100 breast, Young posted an NCAA "B" mark with a time of 1:04.16 to win the event by nearly four seconds. The time was just off of her season-best time of 1:03.37 which currently has her in 15th place in Division II. In the 200 breast, Young won the race by nearly eight seconds after touching the wall in 2:23.74 - well under the PSAC standard. She added victories in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:40.01), the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.44), and the 200-yard medley relay (1:51.74). She had the fastest split of any swimmer that competed in the 200 free relay (24.05) and had the second-best split of any swimmer in the 400 free relay (54.39).

Her 400-yard medley relay team came in second place (4:06.36) - just over a second behind another Bloomsburg foursome.

The Huskies will now have a couple of weeks to get ready for the PSAC Championships. The conference meet gets underway on Wednesday, February 21, at 9:00 a.m. from the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pennsylvania, and will run through Saturday, February 24.
