Lycoming College Warriors picked fifth in preseason poll

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After winning the program’s first conference tournament game in six years in 2017, the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team is predicted to make the postseason for a third straight year when it was picked to finish fifth in the MAC Commonwealth Coaches’ Preseason Poll, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Thursday, Feb. 1.


Three-time defending conference champion Messiah topped the poll with 64 points and all eight first-place votes. Stevenson is picked second with 55 points while Albright is right behind with 51 points. Lebanon Valley (41) and Lycoming (37) round out the top five ahead of Alvernia (23), Arcadia (23), Widener (22) and Hood (8).

In 2017, Lycoming went 10-7 overall with a 5-3 MAC Commonwealth record, fourth best in the conference. The team won 10 games for the third straight year for the first time in program history. The Warriors also won the program’s first postseason game since 2010 when they defeated Lebanon Valley, 14-4, in the MAC Commonwealth Championship opening round.

The Warriors’ two representatives on the All-MAC Commonwealth teams return in senior Jordan Lazarich(Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), who also earned a spot on the All-Metro Region second team. McGinniss earned first-team honors from the MAC Commonwealth, as she led the league in goals (4.13), points (4.80) and draw controls (6.73) per game.

Lazarich, the program’s fifth-leading points scorer (196), earned second-team all-conference honors for the second straight season when she was third in the MAC Commonwealth in goals per game (3.20), fourth in points per game (4.27) and sixth in draw controls (3.73). She also led the team with 1.07 assists per game, which was ninth in the conference.  

The Warriors open the 2018 season under first-year head coach Whitney Boshart at Buffalo State on Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m.
