Lycoming Women's Swimming - Records fall on second day of MAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – Freshman McKenna Zeller (White Haven, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and juniors Emilie Kramer(Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) and Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing) all set school records to lead the Lycoming College swim teams on the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center on Friday evening, Feb. 16.

Kramer broke a 15-year program record in the 200-yard individual medley, as her swim of 2:14.09 was good enough for a 10th-place finish and topped Rebecca Fox’s previous record of 2:14.66 set in 2004.

In the women’s 400-yard medley relay, Zeller got the Warriors off to a fast start in the 100-yard backstroke, as she broke her own school record in 58.10. It bested her old record that she set against Albright on Oct. 21 by three seconds as she became the first Warrior woman to break the one-minute mark in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshmen Mikayla Wright (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and Cara Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Kramer and Zeller topped their seed time by eight seconds to finish eighth in 4:10.67. Zortman had an impressive split of 54.95 in her 100-yard freestyle.

Zortman and Zeller also picked up points in the 50-yard freestyle as Zortman took 15th with a time of 25.28 and Zeller finished right behind her with a time of 25.55. In the preliminary session, both swimmers posted two of the top five times in program history, with Zortman’s 25.24 third and Zeller’s 25.35 fifth.

In the men’s 400-yard medley relay, Jordan also broke his own 100-yard backstroke record that he set at the MAC Championships last season. His time of 51.85 paced all backstrokers in the race and topped his previous record of 52.22, which was also set in the 400-yard medley relay. Sophomore Josh Caro (Ontario, Calif./Colony), freshman Brandon Vought (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), sophomore Theo Gouskos(Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Jordan placed eighth in the relay event with a time of 3:46.01.

Senior Andrew Canavan (Brunswick, N.J./Brunswick) also earned points in the 200-yard individual medley as he placed 16th with a time of 2:03.80.

The Warrior women finished the second day of the championships in ninth place with 76 points. Messiah ranks first with 202. The men also sit in ninth place with 63 points, while Arcadia leads the field with 218.5 points.
