ALFRED, N.Y. – Racking up 20 points through the first four bouts, the Lycoming College wrestling team cruised to a 37-12 win over Alfred State in the team’s final tune-up before the postseason on Wednesday night, Feb. 14, at the Orvis Activities Center.

Lycoming finished the regular season with a 12-5 dual meet record, marking the team’s fifth straight winning season.

Freshman Shane Casey (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) opened the meet with a third-period reversal and four-point near fall to post a 7-0 win over the NCWA’s ninth-ranked Patrick Lehman at 125. Sophomore Eric Hunt (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) followed with an impressive comeback at 133 against Ryan Thierman, falling behind, 6-0, early in the first period before coming back with five points before the period ended. In the second, Hunt earned an escape and a takedown to take an 8-6 lead and followed that by putting Thierman on his back with 11 seconds left. A forfeit at 141 extended the lead to 15 before seventh-ranked junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area) improved to 29-2 with a 16-0 first-period technical fall of Satchel Holder.

After a pair of Alfred State (7-9 overall) wins, seventh-ranked senior Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) won his 27th match of the year, pinning Cino Anthony Jacob in 2:39. A forfeit at 197 and a 21-2 tech fall from senior Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) over NWCA fourth-ranked Ryan Mattison at heavyweight rounded out Lycoming’s seven match wins.

The Warriors get back on the mat when the team’s postseason begins with the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Feb. 23, when the two-day event kicks off at 10 a.m. at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount, Va.
