GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) led a stout Lycoming College men’s lacrosse defense with 12 saves, as it forced 20 turnovers and shut down Gwynedd Mercy in an 8-1 non-conference win at the Gwynedd Mercy Outdoor Athletic Complex on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The Warrior offense, meanwhile, took over after the game was tied at one, scoring the last seven goals of the contest to post the largest margin of victory in the series history with the Griffins (1-1 overall). Lycoming improved to 2-0 for the first time since 1998.

Junior Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) led the Warriors with four goals and sophomoreDrew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor) posted two. Senior Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) added a goal and an assist and sophomore Tyler Thompson (Nepean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) had two assists.

Lycoming got on the board just 58 seconds into the game, with Collins scoring off a give from Huff. Gwynedd Mercy came back to tie the game with 9:25 left in the quarter.

The Warrior offense caught fire soon after, though, scoring four goals before the end of the quarter, with three coming from Ream. Lycoming continued to roll in the second quarter, scoring two more goals, one from Ream and one from Huff to take a 7-1 lead into the break.

In the second half, Gwynedd Mercy took 13 shots, but Tenant stopped seven of them while not letting a ball into the net. Meanwhile, Collins scored the half’s only goal unassisted with 9:10 remaining.

Lycoming outshot Gwynedd Marcy, 32-29, and forced 20 Gwynedd Mercy turnovers, including 12 in the second half. The Warriors were a perfect 20-of-20 on clears while forcing four failed Griffin clear attempts.

Junior Cole Masterson (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) led the Warrior defense with five groundballs and a caused turnover and Tenant also posted three groundballs. Junior Alex Artur (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) won 6-of-11 faceoffs, grabbing two groundballs.

Jord Dziergowski led the Griffins with a goal. Sean Miller notched four groundballs and caused four turnovers to lead the defense. Chris Burns stopped 10 shots in goal and added three groundballs.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Feb. 28, when they head to 17th-ranked Ithaca for a 4 p.m. game.
