Second Place for Keating Highlights Day Three at the MAC Championships for Wilkes Swimming

YORK, Pa. – The Wilkes University men’s and women’s swim teams set three new program records and Abby Keating earned All-MAC Second Team honors during the third day of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center Saturday.

In the team standings, the women are currently in 10th place while the men are 11th with one day remaining in the pool.

Keating broke her own 400 IM program record this morning in the prelims when she qualified fourth with a time of 4:49.24. She upped that effort by over three seconds during the night session with a 4:44.85, finishing second in the A Final race, to make the podium and earn All-MAC Second Team honors in the process.

The team of Morgan Williams, Kyleigh Smeltzer, Allie Aspey, and Keating finished ninth in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:45.16. The time was just off the program record of 1:44.90.

On the men’s side, Justin Burda broke his own program record when he finished 11th in the 100 Fly finals with a time of 53.50. That time beat the record he swam in the morning prelims of 53.66.

Jared Byrne bested his own program record in the 200 Free during the prelims this morning with a time of 1:46.24. He came in at 1:46.97 in the finals to place 11th this evening.

Both teams return to the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. Sunday for the final day of the MAC Championships. The preliminary rounds of the events are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. with the finals set to start at 6:00 p.m.
