Wilkes Basketball Ready for Road Clashes with Manhattanville Saturday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men’s and women’s basketball teams travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville College for road Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) games Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gym.

The Lady Colonels are 4-16 overall and 0-9 in MAC Freedom action. Kelsey Yustat scored a career-high nine points last time out in the Lady Colonels 104-63 loss to FDU-Florham Wednesday night at the Marts Center.

Gianna Roberts leads Wilkes with 10.0 points-per-game (ppg) and 7.3 rebounds-per-game (rpg) to rank sixteenth and eighth respectively among the MAC Freedom leaders. In conference games Roberts is averaging 8.2 rpg (6th). Alyssa Alfano scores 9.3 ppg and is tied for tenth in the conference with 2.2 assists-per-game (apg). Catey McFadden is also scoring 9.3 ppg. She ranks in a tie for tenth with 6.6 rpg and in a tie for fifth with 1.2 blocks-per-game.

Wilkes is averaging 59.0 ppg and allowing 78.2 ppg this season.

Manhattanville enters at 15-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference. The Valiants dropped Wednesday night’s contest 69-60 at DeSales University.

Kayleah McGuire leads the Manhattanville offense with 14.3 ppg to rank fourth in the conference. Sarah Coutu also scores in double figures with 11.7 ppg. Nancy Caballero leads the way with 7.5 rpg and Kymane Jones averages 4.1 apg.

The Valiants score 67.4 ppg while conceding a MAC Freedom-best 48.2 ppg. Manhattanville defeated Wilkes 93-38 on January 6th at the Marts Center.

The Colonels head to Purchase, N.Y. riding their season’s longest winning streak of five games after beating FDU-Florham 86-59 Wednesday night at home. Wilkes stands at 15-5 overall and lead the MAC Freedom standings with an 8-1 record.

Tommy Bowen has helped lead the way during the winning streak. He has scored in double figures the past three games including a season-high 16 points in Wednesday’s win. Rob Pecorelli leads the Colonels with 14.3 ppg which ranks fifth in the conference. He scored 17 points for his conference game-high this season against FDU-Florham. Pecorelli also grabs 5.4 rpg (t-15th), dishes out 2.8 apg (t-5th), and has connected on 41 three-point field goals (7th). Marcus Robinson follows just behind with 14.2 ppg (6th) and is averaging 5.8 rpg (13th) and has 44 makes from three this season (4th). Mark Mullins and Connor Evans each score in double digits as well at 12.1 and 10.9 ppg respectively. Zach Brunner stands at 9.3 ppg and is third in the conference with 7.4 rpg. Mullins is fifth with 7.1 rpg.

Wilkes scores 76.2 ppg while allowing 68.8 ppg and leads the MAC Freedom by outrebounding its opponents by 7.7 this season.

Manhattanville comes into the home contest with a 7-13 overall record and are currently 1-8 in conference action after four straight single-digit losses. Wednesday night the Valiants fell 64-56 at DeSales.

Alex Tuci is one of two MAC Freedom players averaging a double-double on the season. He is scoring 13.7 ppg (8th) and leads the conference with 10.8 rpg. Three other players join Tuci in double figures scoring for the 
Valiants and they include JoJo Cobbs (11.8), Dom Arena (11.1), and Sean Smith (10.5). Arena is tied atop the conference leaderboard with 3.8 apg.

The Valiants average 66.3 ppg and give up 75.5 this season. Wilkes defeated Manhattanville 73-68 on January 6th at the Marts Center.
