Wilkes Men’s Volleyball Concludes Day Two of Knights Challenge

GLENSIDE, PA – The Wilkes University men’s volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to conclude play at the Knights Challenge hosted by Arcadia University on Sunday afternoon. The Colonels fell 3-0 in both matches first against Hunter College then later against Mount Saint Vincent.

Wilkes moved to 2-11 overall following the four-match event.

Hunter took the first match in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20. Wilkes pulled to within one in the third set 18-17 but Hunter rebounded taking the set scoring the final three points to earn the sweep. Daniel Sales led the attack with eight kills, 10 assists and three digs. Dylan Smith followed with six kills and team-high seven digs while Brian Schumacher chipped in with five kills.

Mount Saint Vincent took the second match of the day against the Colonels winning by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-20. In the second set Wilkes led by as many as four points 15-11 before a four-point rally brought the Dolphins all the way back tying the set at 15. A kill from Smith put Wilkes ahead 22-21, but a Dolphin kill and Wilkes service ace followed by the set clinching kill gave Mount Saint Vincent the 25-23 victory.

Smith topped Wilkes with 10 kills. Four other Colonels reached four kills apiece including Sales four kills, 16 assists and two service aces.

Wilkes returns home Wednesday hosting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Misericordia at 4:00 p.m. before a date with York College (N.Y.) at 8:00 p.m. in a tri-match at the Marts Center.
