Wilkes Wrestling Set for 2018 Southeast Regional Friday and Saturday

*There are six regional tournaments across the country and the top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the NCAA Tournament, which will be held March 9-10 in Cleveland. The Southeast Region includes 18 schools from four states.

The Southeast Regional Tournament will take place at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount at this address: Franklin County High School, Central Gym, 700 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151

Admission
All spectators and those not receiving credentials are required to purchase a ticket. Admission prices are as follows:
     - Single-day pass: $12 for adults, $8 for students/senior citizens, children 5 & under free
     - Tournament pass: $20 for adults, $13 for students/senior citizens, children 5 & under free

Colonels Notebook
• Wilkes heads to Rocky Mount, Virginia to compete in the 2018 Southeast Regionals Friday and Saturday hosted by Ferrum College.

• The Colonels finished 1-1 at the Cross County Challenge last weekend beating Keystone 46-6 while dropping a 23-21 decision to Scranton.

• Wilkes went 1-1 two weeks ago falling to another ranked opponent in No. 3 Ithaca 40-3 while dominating cross-town rival King’s 44-6 on Senior Day.

• The Colonels fell 42-6 at No. 19 TCNJ with Matt Grossmann as the lone winner in the match.
• Wilkes finished 2-1 at the John Reese Duals with wins over Washington & Jefferson and RIT. Ashton Gyenizs was named MAC Wrestler of the Week for his 3-0 performance at the event including two extra-point victories.

• Jake Dimarsico led six Colonels who earned All-Conference honors taking home the 133-pound title at the 2018 MAC Championships. Other Wilkes finishers included Kyle Trout (2nd at 125), Grossmann (2nd at 141), Josh Evans (2nd at 149), Gyenizs (2nd at 165) and Dylan O’Connor (3rd at 133).
• Wilkes snapped a five-match losing skid picking up a pair of home dual wins beating Penn College 43-9 and Lackawanna 41-10.

• Wilkes went 0-3 at the prestigious NWCA National Duals falling to No. 14 North Central (32-6), University of Chicago (24-17) and Ohio Northern (24-18).

• Evans was the lone place-winner at the 85th annual Wilkes Open taking home fourth place at 149-pounds at the event.

• The Colonels earned a hard-fought 24-19 victory over Elizabethtown using two falls from sophomore Kyle Medrow and junior John Ritter to secure the win.

• Wilkes fell in both of its matches at the Grapple at the Garden losing 29-16 against No. 10 Stevens before a 38-3 defeat against LIU Post.

• Wilkes swept two matches at the McDaniel Duals posting a 35-9 victory over Southern Virginia before beating host McDaniel 25-12.

• The Colonels went 2-3 at the Mount Union Duals with wins over Alma 34-8 and Greensboro 31-13.

• Wilkes finished 1-2 at the NY/PA Duals with a 38-6 win against Hunter College after falling to No. 11 Cortland 23-20 and NYU 34-6.

• Wilkes finished in tenth place at the Ned McGinley Invitational to open the season as one Colonel earned a top-six finish. Freshman Kyle Trout took home fifth place at 125-pounds in the tournament.

• Wilkes features one wrestler honored in the latest d3wrestle.com individual rankings. Grossmann is tabbed an honorable mention at 141-pounds standing 20-5 on the season.
