Wrestling - Wildcats Advance Three at First NCAA Regional

FERRUM, Va. – Three Penn College wrestlers advanced to the second day of the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional hosted by Ferrum College Friday. It is the first-ever regional appearance for the Wildcats.

Christian FoxJared Mooney, and Dylan Otis all went 2-1 Friday, and will compete in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday.

Fox fell in the first round before rallying with a fall in 2:48 against Wilkes' Jake Dimarsico, and besting Gettysburg's Louie Carusillo, 11-4, at 133.

Following a first round pin at 197, Mooney picked up consecutive win in the consolations. He knocked off Wilkes's Nasser Cummings, 16-2, and edged McDaniel's Jake Pooton, 9-5.

Otis decked McDaniel's Brendan Woody, in 2:19, at heavyweight before losing an exciting overtime match, 4-3, to King's Ralph Bernado. Otis finished off Penn State Behrend's Jacob Lenhardt, 4-0, in the third round of consolations.

Ty Gardner and Chris Barshaw also competed for the Wildcats and went 0-2 Friday.
