JULY 23, 1951 ~ MARCH 1, 2018 (AGE 66)

William F. "Fred" Winters II, 66, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Hazel E. "Peggy" (Hamilton) Winters.

Born July 23, 1951, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late William F. and Helen O. (Weaver) Winters.

Fred was a Williamsport High School graduate and attended the former Williamsport Area Community College. He was an American hero serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his military service he was a jack of all traits working various construction jobs in the Williamsport area.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1. Fred was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting and gardening, he also enjoyed shooting a game pool. He was an animal lover and loved his two dogs, Nicki and Bella, and three cats, Little Blacky, Big Blacky, and Angel. Most of all Fred was a proud and devoted grandfather and cherished spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Daniel L. Winters, of Williamsport, Steven A. Winters (Taran), of Beech Creek, and William F. Winters, III (Lori), of Harrisburg; a daughter, Donna M. Taby (Beau), of Sunbury; 10 grandchildren, Eric Winters (Alyssa), Emmaleah and Jacob Taby, Alexis, Montana, Austin, Aiden, Cartier, Justin, and Shelby Winters; 10 great-grandchildren, Julian, Blair, James, Ashley, Autumn, Brielle, Cameron, Maddy, Darcy, and Aiden; four brothers, Wayne T. Winters (Tammy), Jack D. Winters, Michael L. Winters, and William F. Winters, IV; and a sister, Debra A. Titus.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Charlene D. Moore.

A funeral service to honor the life of William will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, with the Rev. Theodore Van Schoick officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
