Bloomsburg University Men's Basketball Falls At Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team could not get going offensively against the nation's fourth-ranked defense on Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 95-47 decision at Mercyhurst University. The Huskies fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division while the Lakers improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC West.

Freshman Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) reached double figures for the seventh straight time to start his collegiate career as he led the Huskies with 12 points and five rebounds. Fellow freshman Sekou Fofana (Upper Darby, Pa./Springfield Commonwealth) made his first career start and finished with a career-high 11 points to go along with five rebounds. Junior Austin Harriott (Philadelphia, Pa./Hun School) added seven points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots. The trio combined for 30 points and shot 10-of-19 (52.6%) from the field. The rest of the team combined to score 17 points on 6-of-33 (18.1%) from the floor.

Mercyhurst had four players in double figures, led by Jason Massey who finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. Trystan Pratapas added 16 points in 16 minutes off the bench for the Lakers.

The Huskies shot 16-of-52 (30.8%) overall and made only 3-of-17 (17.6%) from beyond the arc. Bloomsburg also had just two assists on the afternoon while committing 17 turnovers. The Lakers, meanwhile, were 40-of-76 (52.6%) and hit 14-of-29 (48.3%) from three-point range. Mercyhurst had a whopping 30 assists and turned the ball over just four times on the day.

The Huskies will be off until Tuesday, December 18, and Wednesday, December 19, when they head west again for conference contests against California and Slippery Rock, respectively. Tip-off against the Vulcans on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. while start time is slated for 7:30 p.m. against The Rock on Wednesday.
