BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team erased a 22-point first-half deficit to force overtime on Sunday afternoon but the Huskies' foul shooting proved to be their demise as the visiting Fighting Scots of Edinboro University earned a 97-94 overtime victory in a thriller at the Nelson Field House. Bloomsburg suffered its first loss of the season at home and dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. Edinboro, meanwhile, improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC Western Division.

Bloomsburg went only 4-of-13 from the foul line over the last two minutes of regulation and the five-minute overtime period as the Huskies had multiple occasions to take the lead and, potentially, put the game out of reach. Bloomsburg finished 22-of-35 (62.9%) from the stripe but started 18-of-22 (81.8%) before going ice cold in the crucial moments of the game.

Edinboro, which scored only 37 points on Saturday at West Chester, built a 47-27 halftime advantage and led by as many as 22 points - 43-21 - with 4:43 left in the opening 20 minutes. The Fighting Scots shot 15-of-29 (51.7%) in the first half, 6-of-10 (60.0%) from three-point range, and 11-12 (91.7%) from the foul line as they built up a double-digit lead just over five minutes into the contest. Junior Ky Mauras (Reading, Pa./Reading) tried to keep the Huskies in the game with 11 points in the first half.

Bloomsburg trailed by 21 points, 63-42, with 13:43 left in regulation before the Huskies put together a 20-0 run in less than five minutes to cut the lead to 63-62 with 8:52 remaining. Freshman Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) led the way with seven points during the run while Mauras added six and redshirt junior Sam Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) chipped in with five. Sophomore Nicholas King (Easton, Pa./Freedom)added the other two. But, to Edinboro's credit, the Fighting Scots stopped the bleeding and built the lead back up to nine, 78-69, with just 3:48 left in regulation.

Back came the Huskies again. Bloomsburg went on a 13-4 run to tie the game at 82-82 with 44 seconds left on a layup from junior Austin Harriott (Philadelphia, Pa./Hun School). Edinboro's Jaryn Simpson, who led all scorers with 34 points, hit a pair of foul shots on the next possession which was followed by a missed jumper by Saxton and two more free throws from Simpson to give the Fighting Scots and 86-82 lead with 14 seconds left. Saxton buried a triple to cut the lead to one with nine seconds remaining and then Harriott stole and in-bounds pass which led to a 1-of-2 trip at the line by Mauras to tie the game at 86-86 with seven seconds left. Mauras then came up with a big steal near midcourt as the Fighting Scots tried to drive down the court for a potential game-winner.

The Fighting Scots built up a five-point lead, 92-87, with 3:52 left in overtime before the Huskies rallied again. Bloomsburg went on a 7-0 run and, after Harriott scored with 56 seconds left, the Huskies had their first lead of the game at 94-92. Edinboro's DeAnthony Owens, however, knocked down a three-pointer and, after a miss by the Huskies, Steven Freeman hit a layup with nine seconds left to give Edinboro a three-point lead. Saxton had an excellent look at a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer but it rimmed out and the Fighting Scots escaped.

Mauras tied his career-high with 28 points on 9-of-12 from the field and 9-of-11 from the foul line. He added seven assists and four rebounds while playing all 45 minutes. Saxton, meanwhile, finished with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-18 from the field, 3-of-7 from long range, and 5-of-7 from the line. He added nine rebounds and five assists. Elmore reached double figures for the sixth consecutive time to start his career and finished with his second straight double-double - 19 points and 12 rebounds. Harriott was also in double digits with 13 points and six rebounds.

Simpson finished with 34 for the Fighting Scots while Owens added 27. Trey Staunch chipped in 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday, December 8, when it heads to Erie to take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
