LHU men’s basketball - Cerruti, Bald Eagles make history with huge PSAC road win

Matt Cerruti powers the LHU men’s basketball team in a huge PSAC road win and secured the first victory at Gannon in program history.

ERIE, Pa.  The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (3-3, 2-1 PSAC) picked up a big Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road win over Gannon (3-5, 1-2 PSAC) 60-57.

In their first matchup since the 2016-17 season, Lock Haven and Gannon provided plenty of action in a nail bitter finish. Today’s historic win marked Lock Haven’s first win at Gannon in program history. LHU’s last win over Gannon was on Dec. 4, 2015 at home in a 68-60 finish. It marked Lock Haven’s first win over Gannon in 25 years.

At the half, Lock Haven held a 31-23 lead. The Bald Eagles pushed the lead to 16 in the second half thanks to the shooting of Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) who finished with a game high 18 points. Cerruti was 6-9 from the field, including a perfect 2-2 from the 3-point line.

In a nail bitter finish, Lock Haven sealed the win thanks to clutch free throws from Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Electric Charter) and Jaylen Washington (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). Washington was 5-6 from the line in the game and Barnes finished a perfect 5-5.

In a strong offensive performance, the Bald Eagles had 3 players score in double figures led by Cerruti with 18. Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) provided 16 and Barnes finished with 10.

Kelly led the Bald Eagles in the battle on the glass finishing with a team high 7 rebounds. Cerruti and Washington each turned in 5 rebounds.

The Bald Eagles will next return to action (Tuesday, Dec. 18) at Slippery Rock (7:30 p.m.).
