LHU Women’s Indoor Track & Field solid in season opener

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s indoor track & field team opened the 2018-19 indoor season today (Saturday, December 1) at the Bucknell Bison Opener.

Led by throwers Stephanie Williams (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Arianna Moyer (Enola, Pa./Bucknell), along with freshman-sprinter Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown), the Bald Eagles turned in a number of notable individual outings.

Williams and Moyer both recorded Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks in the weight throw as both tossed personal-best marks. Williams was fourth overall with a throw of 49-01.00. She was the top NCAA Division II finisher. Moyer was ninth and just missed the finals with her PSAC qualifying mark of 44-05.50.

The rookie-Owens won the 200-meter dash with a sizzling early season time of a 25.95 (#PSAC). She bested the 16-women field by nearly a full second. She was also fourth in the 60-meter dash with a PSAC time of 7.84. The 200-meter outing marks one of the all-time fastest marks in school history as Owens certainly impressed in her debut.

Tatum Mosely (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) was fifth in the 200 with a PSAC time of 27.12.

Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Rashana Tompkins (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) finished second and fifth, respectively in the 60-meter hurdles. Newcomer-Bollinger, a field hockey player in the fall, was second with a PSAC time of 9.17 and Tompkins, the experienced-veteran, was fifth in a PSAC qualifying time of 9.32.

Ashley Kline (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Chloe Wagner (Beavertown, Pa./West Snyder) went 5 (47.31) 6 (47.57) in the 300-meter dash, while Morgan Sutton (Stevensville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) pushed close to a PSAC mark in the 400 (1:03.05). Sutton and Wagner were ninth and 10th (1:04.43), respectively in the 400-meter race.

Williams added a solid throw of 35-11.50 in the shot to round a strong opening day.

The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Kline, Sutton, Owens and Bollinger finished fifth with a time of 4:23.08.
