Men's Basketball - Penn College Rallies for First Win of the Season

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College erased an 11-point halftime deficit en route to a 72-68 win over Clarks Summit in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 1-8, while the Defenders fell to 0-9.

Spencer Bartron scored a season-high 22 points for the Wildcats, on 6 of 9 from the floor and 7 of 9 from the line and added a team-high five assists. Carson Garvis finished with a season-high 14 points for Penn College, and Imari Walker finished with 10. Ryan Lockman grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Marcus Dixon led CS with 17 points and Khari Dickson finished with 10.

The opening half featured several lead changes and deadlocks with neither team taking more than a two-possession lead in the opening 16 minutes. After a Garvis three gave Penn College a 24-23 lead with 4:04 left in the first, the Defenders closed out the half with 13-1 run to lead 36-25 at halftime.

Clarks Summit built its lead to 13, 43-30, with 17:08 left in the second but Penn College answered with a 12-1 spurt to pull within two, 44-42, on a Garvis free throw with 12:35 left. The Defenders led 50-42 before Obens Luxama and Garvis led a 10-0 run to tie the game at 52 with 9:18 remaining – Luxama had seven points in the run. The Wildcats made the run a 15-0 spurt with ensuing points from Lockman and Bartron to take a 57-52 advantage with 7:25 on the clock. The Defenders fought back to tie the game at 61-61 with under five minutes left before consecutive layups from Bartron and Ben Sosa gave Penn College the space it needed to close out the game.

Penn College returns to action Dec. 18 hosting Marymount University in the Crosstown Challenge at 4 p.m.
