Men's Basketball - Warriors come up short against Knights

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Markanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic) scored a career-high 28 points and added four steals, but the Lycoming College men’s basketball team fell to the MAC Commonwealth preseason favorite Arcadia University, 76-65, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8, at the Lamade Gymnasium.

Fidelis knocked down a team-season high six 3-point field goals, the most in a game by a Warrior since T.J. Duckett hit six against Widener on Jan. 28, 2017.

After a back-and-forth start to the second period that saw five lead changes and a tie, the Warriors (5-4 overall, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) took the lead, 50-49, with 11:30 to go, following a 3-point play by sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Hardford Tech). The Knights (7-2 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) followed that play with an 18-6 run over the next eight minutes to grow their largest lead of the half, 67-55. Lycoming cut the lead to single digits four times over the game’s final 3:34, but could not overcome the run.


Fidelis shot 10-of-18 from the field and 6-of-10 from three to make up his 28 points. Dangerfield filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Senior Darius James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) had 10 points with six rebounds andCalvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) had a game-high seven rebounds.

The Warriors went into the break trailing by just one, 37-36, after being down by as much as 14 in the half, after Arcadia led 24-10 advantage 12 minutes into the game. Lycoming countered with its own 24-10 run, tying the game with 2:19 left in the first half. The Warriors went a perfect 9-of-9 from the paint and 4-of-8 from deep during the run.

Arcadia shot 46 percent (26-of-56) from floor, while the Warriors shot 37 percent (25-of-68).

The Knights were led by Evan Slone, who finished with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Phil Piefry added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 12 when they host Messiah College in MAC Commonwealth action at 6 p.m., at the Lamade Gym.
