Men's Basketball - Warriors fall to Falcons

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The backcourt duo of freshman Markanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) combined for 35 points, but the Lycoming College men’s basketball team fell, 74-63, to Messiah College in a MAC Commonwealth game on Wednesday night, Dec. 12 in the Lamade Gymnasium.


The Warriors (5-5 overall, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth) cut Messiah’s lead to five off a layup by Dangerfield with 3:55 remaining in the game, but the Falcons  (6-5 overall, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) outscored the Warriors, 16-10, over the last four minutes, while going a perfect 10-of-10 from the line to close out the contest.

The Warriors shot 45 percent (13-of-29) in the second half, compared to Messiah’s 41 percent (10-of-24), but the Falcons connected on 19-of-21 foul shots in the game, including 15-of-16 after the break.

The Warriors had eight players find the score column, led by Fidelis with 18 and Dangerfield with 17. Dangerfield added four assists, three rebounds, three steals and a block, while Fidelis connected on 4-of-7 3-pointers.

The Falcons scored the game’s first basket and never trailed. After Messiah connected on their first two shots from three, the Warriors mirrored that effort, with 3-pointers from seniorCalvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) and Fidelis to tie the game at six. After trading buckets on the ensuing possessions, the Falcons used a 17-3 run to build their largest lead of the game, 23-9, with 11:06 left in the first half. The Warriors could not get no close than 12 the remainder of the half and went into the break trailing 38-26. 

Lycoming’s bench outscored Messiah’s 15-9, led by six points and five rebounds by seniorDarius James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and five points from senior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area).

Messiah was led by a triple-double by Colin Sareyka. Sareyka dropped in 19 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Matt Glogowski finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 22 points and pulling in 11 rebounds.

The Warriors are back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m., when they head to Widener for a MAC Commonwealth contest in the Schwartz Athletic Center.
