OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Six Lycoming College men’s basketball players scored in double figures, but Lycoming fell, 100-92, in overtime to Stevenson University in MAC Commonwealth action at the Owings Mills Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1.

The six players to score in double-figures was the most in a game since Lycoming had six reach at least 10 points on Feb. 3, 2017 against Albright. Lycoming played in back-to-back overtime games for the second time in as many years and the fifth time in school history, last doing it against Albright on Feb. 17 and Lebanon Valley on Feb. 21, 2018.

With the Warriors (4-3 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) holding an 83-80 lead, Stevenson’s Montaque Wright was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 1.2 seconds left. He sank all three free throws to send the game to overtime. Stevenson (5-1 overall, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) took their first lead since the opening half with a 3-point field goal with 2:32 left in overtime. Freshman Markanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic)  drilled a 3-pointer with 42 seconds remaining to bring the Warriors within three, 95-92, but the Mustangs closed the game out with five free throws to capture the victory.

Junior Devon Taylor (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) had a double-double, finishing with a career-high 12 rebounds and 12 points. Fidelis scored 21 points for the third time this season, going 7-of-7 from the line, sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) added 20 points and four assists, senior Darius James (Brooklyn N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) netted 15 points and had nine rebounds and both freshman Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and sophomore D’Yante Doughty (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) had 10 points each.

A three by Ilodigwe gave the Warriors a 66-52 lead, their largest of the night, with 13:03 left in the game. The Mustangs used a 19-7 run over the next seven minutes to cut the Warrior lead to two, 73-71. Lycoming continued to keep Stevenson at bay until the final second.

After a high-scoring first half, the Warriors went into the break leading 47-41. Stevenson jumped out to an 11-3 lead, however, the Warriors received eight points from James and a three-point play by Edmond to cut the lead to 13-11 with 16:02 remaining. An acrobatic layup and converted free throw by Doughty and a basket by Fidelis cut the Mustang lead to 21-20 with nine minutes left in the period. The Warriors took their first lead of the game at the 4:30 mark after Dangerfield buried a three to make the score 31-30 and Lycoming closed the half by outscoring Stevenson, 16-11, going a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line, and started the second half on a 19-11 run.

The Warriors shot (18-of-22) from the free-throw line and knocked down 12 3-point field goals while Stevenson had five.

The Mustangs were led by Wright, who had a game-high 34 points and seven rebounds. Mark Terrell had 25 points and seven rebounds and Sean Mayberry added 20 points.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 5 when they head to MAC Commonwealth opponent Lebanon Valley for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
