The Bloomsburg University wrestling team heads to Kutztown University on Saturday for the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Action starts at 10 a.m. with first- and second-round matches followed by semifinals and consolation matches. Opening ceremonies for finals begins at 6:00 p.m. with the three mats of championships commencing at 6:30 p.m.

All-day passes for the event will be $15, while all-day student passes at $7. Notably, all PSAC students will be admitted free with student ID.

Last season, the Huskies finished eighth at the championships which were held at Edinboro University. Bloomsburg had three placers in Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) at 133 pounds, Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) at 174 pounds, and Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) at 285 pounds. The Huskies finished with 43.5 team points.

This season, however, the PSAC Wrestling Tournament will feature a new structure. Continuing the tradition of the past 75-plus years, individual champions at the each of the 10 respective weight classes will be recognized.  Beginning this year, no team champion will be determined from the tournament. At the end of the season, a Division I PSAC and Division II PSAC champion will be crowned based on dual results within the conference vs. respective NCAA-level opponents.

Bloomsburg enters the tournament with an 0-3 record in dual competition and, most recently, suffered a 24-11 loss to Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) foe - George Mason University - at the Nelson Field House on November 29. Junior Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) earned a 16-7 major decision victory over Talha Farooq to start the evening at 125 pounds while redshirt junior Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) also earned a major decision win - 12-4 - over Paul Pierce at 184 pounds. Freshman Aaron Coleman (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) picked up the other Huskies' victory on the night with an 8-5 win over Julio Alegria at 141 pounds. It was Coleman's first collegiate dual win.

Girard leads the Huskies with 11 victories on the year as he improved to 11-5 on the season. Allard, meanwhile, is second with nine victories (9-7) and picked up his team-leading fourth victory by major decision against the Patriots.

Of the Huskies' contingent making the trip to Kutztown on Saturday, redshirt junior Lewis Williams (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) along with juniors Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) and Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) have posted five victories on the year with Newberry earning one fall of his five wins. Coleman and redshirt sophomore Anthony Vetrano (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) have three wins apiece. Of Coleman's victories, he has collected one fall and one technical fall while Vetrano also has one fall to his credit.

Following Saturday's PSAC Championships, the Huskies will be off until they host Lock Haven University at the Nelson Field House on Sunday, December 16. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
