WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) notched her second straight double-double to lead four Lycoming College women’s basketball players in double figures, as Lycoming became the first MAC Commonwealth team with three conference wins, posting a 60-50 win over Lebanon Valley College at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Wednesday night, Dec. 5.

Kline posted 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Warriors (6-2 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth), who shot 37 percent (24-of-65) from the field. Thanks to a 45-38 advantage on the glass and a 17-12 advantage in turnovers, Lycoming created a 43-28 advantage in points in the paint and 19-2 in transition.

Senior Becca Painter (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added a season-best 15 points to go with six rebounds and two steals, junior Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals and sophomore Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) posted 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks to round out Lycoming’s players in double figures.

A layup by McFadden kicked off the second quarter scoring and sparked Lycoming on a run of 11 straight points, with a layup by freshman Alex Jones (Glenshaw, Pa./Saint Joseph) giving Lycoming a 25-10 lead with 4:17 left. Lebanon Valley was able to get a point closer at the break at 31-17, as the Warriors were paced by 12 points from Painter and seven points and nine rebounds from Kline.

Lebanon Valley (4-5 overall, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) was able to close within nine points twice in the third quarter, but the Warriors responded each time, even taking a 48-33 lead with 8:33 left in the fourth quarter after a run of six straight points. The Dutchmen were finally able to cut the gap to seven with 2:52 left and even six with 59 seconds left off a 3-pointer from Emily Mealey, but Lycoming closed the game with a 6-for-10 effort at the line to secure its first 3-0 start in conference play since 1995-96.

Lebanon Valley hit the first shot of the game, but an old-fashioned 3-point play from Kline gave Lycoming a 3-2 lead 98 seconds into the game and although Lebanon Valley closed within two points several times in the early going, Lycoming never lost the lead, taking a 14-10 lead into the second quarter.

Mealey led the Dutchmen with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds and Megan Bisco added 10 points and two 3-pointers, as both players came off the bench. Bench players accounted for 42 of the team’s 50 points.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 8, when they host Arcadia University in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader. The women will tip at 1 p.m. before the men tip at 3 p.m.
